I am very excited to introduce this Part of Perspectives that addresses collaboration with behavior experts in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). In her article “The View From an Allied Professional: A Team's Journey and Lessons Learned Exploring Augmentative and Alternative Communication for an Adult With Autism,” Crawford addresses practical variables for team consideration. Forbes's article, “Augmentative and Alternative Communication Intervention in Public Schools: Achieving Meaningful Outcomes Through Collaboration,” presents a discussion about AAC intervention in public schools and collaboration between different professionals. Marks, in her article, “Interprofessionalism on the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Team: Mending the Divide,” discusses the importance of Interdisciplinary collaboration specific to working with AAC and the fundamental differences in approach from board-certified behavior analysts and speech-language pathologists. Vail's article, “A Glossary of Behavior Analytic Terms for Speech-Language Pathologists' Considerations for Augmentative and Alternative Communication” includes descriptions of some basic behavior analytic principles and their application to AAC. I am very grateful to these authors and their efforts to write about these topics. I hope you enjoy these articles.
