Dear SIG 1 Affiliates,
Oh behalf of the SIG 1 Coordinating Committee, I am pleased and honored to welcome all new and returning members to SIG 1! This is my first column as coordinator, and I want to thank Geralyn Timler for her service as coordinator from January 2015 to December 2017. Geralyn was a wonderful leadership mentor and advocate for language and learning during her service to SIG 1. While she has “retired” from SIG 1 leadership, I know she will continue to be an integral part of this community of learners. As I begin my time as coordinator, I want to highlight the other Coordinating Committee members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make SIG 1 an amazing group of individuals who provide opportunities for continued education, advocacy, networking, and support. Molly Thompson will be serving as associate coordinator this year and working to help SIG 1 achieve their work plan goals. Cathy Constable will continue to serve as the on-line coordinator, TJ Ragan will continue as the professional development manager, and Brenda Beverly will continue as the editor. These ladies amaze me with their efficient and organized abilities to provide quality educational articles and opportunities to our members! Our newest member is Amy Costanza Smith, who will be working with Cathy to organize the yearly webchat and communicate opportunities and announcements through the community homepage and social media. I am also pleased to continue to work with Stacey Glasgow, who continues to be our ex-officio support from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association office. If you have any requests or suggestions regarding SIG 1, particularly towards content, authors, or speakers, please contact one of the coordinating committee members or post a question/comment on the SIG 1 Community page. We are happy to serve you!
