The mission of Special Interest Group (SIG) 6, Hearing and Hearing Disorders: Research and Diagnostics, is to provide the opportunity for communication and collaboration between clinicians and researchers, with the goal of building a bridge between research findings and evidence-based practice related to hearing and balance. I am Keith Wolgemuth, your coordinator, and a professor, researcher, and clinical audiologist. For the past 18 months I have enjoyed working with the outstanding and diverse group of people who make up the SIG 6 Coordinating Committee. This SIG is comprised of a community of clinical and research audiologists and hearing scientists who are interested in a wide range of clinical and research issues involving the auditory and vestibular systems. Topics of interest include: models of hearing, psychoacoustics, auditory processing, effects of genetic and/or environmental agents on the auditory and vestibular systems, tinnitus, diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders, aging and auditory–vestibular function, cochlear implants, amplification, and hearing loss prevention and conservation. We welcome all the new affiliates to SIG 6 and all of the returning members and we appreciate your interest in these wide-ranging areas of audiology practice and research.
