It is my distinct pleasure to introduce Special Interest Group (SIG) 12 affiliates to Part 2 of Perspectives. These articles, which focus on preservice training, are extremely important not only to me as an associate professor at a university, but also because this topic has been discussed on the SIG 12 community, in other association (such as the Assistive Technology Industry Association or ATIA), and between faculty (new as well as seasoned educators). Dr. Yvonne Gillette was the guest editor for this part of Perspectives. Dr. Gillette has done an excellent job of recruiting 4 authors to submit innovative strategies for providing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) training to students of speech-language pathology (using simulation strategies), providing tools to speech-language pathologists for training school staff in AAC, use of evidence-based practice while incorporating clinical training for speech-language pathology students, and providing much needed training on goal writing in the field of AAC.
