I am excited to share with you this next article in Special Interest Group (SIG) 11's Perspectives on Administration and Supervision! Author Joanne Christodoulou shares her vast knowledge regarding the expectations of student clinicians and their supervisors as they enter into their externship experiences in the speech-language pathology arena through an extensive review of the current literature. The reader is provided with information about the impact of these expectations on the effectiveness of the supervisory relationship and experience, and the educational, behavioral, and adult experiential learning theories on which this impact is based. The author also shares practical strategies that both clinical supervisors and student clinicians can implement to enhance the externship experience.
