Dear SIG 15 Affiliates,
It is truly my honor to enter my final year as Coordinator of Special Interest Group (SIG) 15, Gerontology. As each of you knows, choosing to focus your practice, teaching, and research on provision of care to older adults is an incredibly challenging, but rewarding, career path. Every day, geriatric practitioners face medical complexities and co-morbidities, ethical dilemmas, unique social-emotional contexts, and an ever-changing reimbursement system. I hope that you find SIG 15's dedicated volunteers and talented affiliates to be a resource to you as you work to improve communication, swallowing, hearing, and cognition for our older adults. I offer my gratitude to SIG 15's volunteer leaders who graciously dedicate significant time and service on behalf of our affiliates: Ed Bice, continuing education manager; Nancy Brandenburger, professional development manager, Renee Kinder, Perspectives editor; Mary Beth Mason-Baughman, associate coordinator; Pamela Smith, Coordinating Committee member; Michelle Tristani, Coordinating Committee member; and George Voyzey, Perspectives assistant editor. Special thanks is also offered to members of our Editorial Review Committee and Professional Development Committee. Gennith Johnson at the National Office serves as ex officio, helping to guide and facilitate the work of the SIG.
