Greetings Affiliates,
Welcome to SIG 6's contribution to ASHA's new Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups. As you may (or may not) know, SIG 6 is open to all ASHA and national NSSLHA members with an interest in research and diagnostic considerations of hearing and hearing disorders. Our SIG represents scientists, clinicians, and students interested in all aspects of the auditory system from outer ear to the cortex, including mechanisms of hearing, genetic and acquired factors affecting auditory function, validity and reliability of assessment techniques, implications of auditory dysfunction on a listener's life skills, prevention of and intervention for auditory disorders, and academic and clinical preparation of the next generation of hearing scientists and practicing audiologists. SIG 6's day-to-day activities are administered by our Coordinating Committee (CC): Jeanane M. Ferre, Coordinator; Susan Gordon-Hickey; Associate Coordinator, Ashley W. Harkrider; Editor; Anna Kharmalova Meehan, Professional Development Manager; Wafaa Kaf and Keith Woglemuth, Members; and Deborah Berndtson, ASHA ex officio.
